Saturday the 3rd of September, dad and I had a flashback. Remembered when our 4 children were in 4-h and every April we bought 100 fats (chicks) and then in May we went to the Delta park , weighed them all for 4-h and prizes. We would then take them home and 25 at a time, it took 4 days, dad would chop the chicken's heads off and then would begin the assembly line of skinning, cleaning and putting them into freezer bags. I don't know if you remember this spring, Steve and the kids bought home some chicks and a hen. Three of them turned out to be roosters. Saturday was the big day, only Trudy knew what was coming.

Yep, it is a rooster |
Stevie and Trudy took pictures. The birds are now in the Bainter refrigerator ready to be cooked.
Probably more than you wanted to see. It is nice to be able to go to the grocery store and buy just what you want, whether it is breasts, thighs, or legs and put them in the freezer for a later use.

Those are memories one can never forget.
Chickens hanging out on the clothes line . . . . ha!
Those roosters are definitely not fats!!
The look on dad's face is just how I felt those four days we were doing chickens . . . . . but I guess you did get used to it . . . . but oh the smell!!!!
Nice to have chicken in the freezer though . . . . we were so self sufficient, that is a great feeling.
The smell wasn't as bad as I remembered it being. We of course had way less chickens and we were outside....
Glad mom and dad were willing to do the deed!!!
