Our 49th Annversary

On Wednesday night after I gave my last piano lesson, Sid and I went to the Texas Road House for dinner. It was really good.  I really liked their dill fries.  Then Thursday morning after putting Stevie on the school bus we headed over to Virginia to the Luray Caverns.  Tina had given us tickets in October and I saved them for now hoping for good weather, and it was a beautiful day.

Do not stop on the bridge all the signs say, sooo here we are stopped on the up hill of the bridge.  They were doing repairs and one lane traffic only.
We made good time and here is dad waiting in the cafe for the next tour.
This is at the start of the tour and the only time I used the flash on my camera.  I hope you enjoy all the pictures.

After the caves we went through a Car and Carriage Caravan.  Their cars, carriages and costumes dated back to 1725.

I know to many pictures, but these are just a few that I took.  Then it was back on the road home.

No one told me that the mountain road was so winding and steep.  It reminded me of Cabbage Hill as a kid.
This doesn't do justice to to road.
All in all we had a great day, loved every minute of it, we both would do again.  There is so much to see that you can't do it all in one day.

Another quilt done!!!!!

With Tina's help with the squares and then coming out one day last week to quilt we finished another quilt.  Now I just have one more quilt to finish.

After the quilt was off then comes the next time consuming part, the making of the bias quilt binding. This has always been a head-ache for me.  This year, and after the last quilt, dad stepped in and helped me out again.

After I have cut and sewed the material together for the bias I usually measure and sew together, and it never matches.

This time dad made an 1 1/2 piece of cardboard and taped it to my scissors.

No measuring, just cutting, you do have to off set the material before you cut.

Then Dad took a broom handle to put the material through the hoop for easier cutting.

Bias type made three times faster without all the frustration and words.

Roll it up and you are ready to start pinning it to the quilt.

Sewing the bias to the back of the quilt

Finally sewing the bias on the front of the quilt.

Not perfect, but finished.  It is always a wonderful feeling to have a finished quilt and see what your labors have produced.  I love it and I hope I can make many more quilts to come.
